Just a little about me...I spent 30 years of my life as a Police officer but due to the nature of that career meant I came across a lot of life and death, it also meant that I dealt with a lot of confrontation and I suppose due to the nature of the job I could only see the bad in everyone.
When I retired I felt I was able to have a new outlook on life and one thing that I really enjoy looking at and being part of is the natural world.
I love being near the sea and just watching the waves, to think that those waves have been doing the same thing for thousands of years. I also like to look at very old buildings and try to imagine what the people were like at that time!
About 10 years ago I became interested in painting although I didn’t know the first thing about painting or where to start so I went to a couple of workshops devoted to the Bob Ross style of painting. That was it, I was hooked. I next tried watercolour painting at a local class but after a few months I found it was not my thing.
I then went to a pastels class which I absolutely loved, the only thing is I think I got more of the pastels on me than on the paper!
I left the classes and joined an art club and thought I would try my hand at acrylics. Acrylics is now my medium of choice.
Although I am a member of one art club I decided that I wanted more, so I have now formed and run my own art club where like minded people can meet once a week and draw or paint with mediums of their choice.
When I look at something to paint quite often I find the need to change something slightly or take something away, so that I am happy with the composition, this is what they call ‘Artistic Licence’ I remember a fellow artist saying to me, if a person wanted to see an exact representation of a particular scene or portrait then tell them to buy a photograph.
Having said that, I think most of my paintings are reasonably accurate!
A lot of people will only buy from a gallery paying expensive prices, whereas I am not a professional artist and my prices reflect that!
I know I only paint in my spare time, however I have found that I am starting to accumulate quite a few paintings ( I can only put so many up in the house ) so I thought I would start this website to display my work and hopefully sell a few pieces at the same time.
I have put on the size, medium and price of every painting and please bear in mind that the cost is calculated not only for me painting the particular artwork but includes the cost of maintaining this website, materials and fees. Any money that I do make will be ploughed back into the purchase of more materials, p&p will obviously be extra ( I will simply go down to the post office get the particular painting weighed and then let you know the exact postage but if you live in the Swansea area or as I travel to Leicestershire quite regularly I will happily deliver it personally in those areas.
As I am a better painter than I am a photographer, I have had to take a photo at a slight side angle on many of the paintings to try and stop any reflections.
To view my paintings press 'Gallery' and hopefully you should see a slideshow.
As I will be adding paintings on a regular basis please keep popping back to have a look.
I hope you like what I have got on display and thank you for visiting my site.
Gregg.
